WHAT MAKES A GOOD MEDICAL EXAMINER?
At a minimum, a good Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) must be an experienced physician. He or she should have a thorough familiarity with the profession of flying and the flying environment; and should be truly committed to advocating for each pilot, while at the same time ensuring flight safety.
In other words, a good AME knows their stuff and is someone you can trust.
At Utah Flight Med, I offer all the above and more. With over 20 years experience in aerospace medicine, both in the military and civilian spheres, I’ll provide you with personalized care to get you flying and keep you flying.
Schedule a free ten minute consult or book now with confidence.
I look forward to meeting you!

f you need an FAA exam, feel free to request the highest class that you think you qualify for, or the highest class you would like. I charge the same for all three exams as long as they do not include an EKG. If you don't qualify for class 1 or 2, we can always downgrade the exam at the appointment, free of charge. Make sure you complete your MedXPress application (https:medxpress.faa.gov) before your appointment. For SAME-DAY appointment, please call me at 801-791-9078
-
You will need an EKG when applying for first-class medical certification at the first application after reaching the 35th birthday; and
on annual basis at age 40 and older. If you renew your FAA MEDICAL EXAMS more recently than annually, and are over 40, you only need one (1) EKG per year. So if you've had an FAA exam with an EKG in the past 12 months, you won't need one now. For SAME-DAY appointment, please call me at 801-791-9078 -
Don't want to mess with FAA red tape anymore? Find the prerequisites for Basic Med here
https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/basic_medMost folks who choose basic med over an FAA Exam are doing so because of at least one medical condition that might make the FAA Exam option lengthy or uncertain. But there are still a few medical conditions that disqualify you from Basic Med. So let's discuss.

HIMS Exams are a bit longer and cost a bit more due to extra paperwork. I do not offer in-house laboratory testing, but am happy to receive test results directly from the lab performing the test.
-
If you have a complicated history that you think may take more time, or if you have documents you’d like reviewed, or if you simply prefer a face-to-face consultation, this service is for you. Otherwise, consider scheduling a FREE 10 minute telephone consultation.
-
I can perform your DOT exam, needed to maintain your commercial driver’s license. The exam is almost identical to an FAA Exam in time and content, so the price is the same. Make sure you bring your driver’s license to the exam. If you have medical issues, I recommend discussing with me ahead of time with a free 10 minute consultation - OR - you can email me at ptsipos@utahflightmed.com
-
Short and straightforward, the FREE 10 minutes consultation (available on Thursdays) will answer your basic questions at no charge. To get the most out of your ten minutes, please write down your questions ahead of time and plan for a focused, efficient telephone question-and-answer session.
-
If you’ve ever received an unrestricted FAA medical certificate, then you will not need to repeat the color vision test. Otherwise, the FAA now requires that applicants do the color vision test using one of three computer-based tests. I offer the Waggoner Test, which is done from my iPad. If you’re concerned about passing, you can make arrangements to come by and try the test for free.
-
If you need some serial blood pressure checks, or if you’re simply curious about your blood pressure, come on by. I’m happy to check your blood pressure for free, as often as you like.

BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT IS EASY
I know that work and life is busy for both pilots and students. For that reason, one of my primary goals is to provide flexible scheduling to my customers. My daily hours are structured and updated weekly to ensure “next day” availability through my website scheduling tool for all members of the aviation community.
Same day appointments are also ALMOST always available by calling/texting 801-791-9078.
If my normal hours don’t work for you, or if you’re in a super tight situation, I can come in early or stay late. Again, just call/text 801-791-9078.
All appointment can be rescheduled or cancelled without penalty.
Inquire about my military discounts, as well as special rates for active duty aircrew who have a current (unexpired) 2992.
